Raw Streaming
Raw Streaming is used to provide application services through thin clients. All computations occur on the server, and no data are transferred from the server to clients except for the contents of frame-buffers.
The connection between the server and clients is analogous to a long monitor cable – any client is acting as a simple display device, with all computing occurring on the server. What flows through the connection is simply a raw sequences of frames, similar to a video broadcast. However, unlike transmission of a video signal, Raw Streaming allows the user on the client side to control the application running on the server – for example, to rotate a 3D volume reconstruction.
Raw Streaming technology is not widely adopted for medical solutions for a number of reasons, including high bandwidth requirements, and the poor scalability of servers.
* Requires very high bandwidth to ensure fast access
